SAY NO TO POLICE VIOLENCE IN SERBIA - support petition handover

Reci NE policijskom nasilju, dodji i podrzi predaju peticije.

Very serious and troubling breaches of basic citizen rights happened during protests in Serbia between July 7th and 11th this year. In several cities across Serbia, spontaneous protest occurred as response to the government mishandling of the pandemic crisis. The state response to the protest was a clear demonstration of despotic tyrannical rule with no respect for core democratic values. Citizens could not practice their right to freedom of speech and right to protest peacefully. Police forces used excessive amount of teargas, which caused nausea, headaches and vomiting. Police also used excessive force by beating protesters and citizens that were not part of the protest. Video evidence of the police violence is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2SinzxJzMY&feature=youtu.be . Journalists that report about the protest were not spared either. Many peaceful protesters were arrested too. Therefore Serbian citizens deserve an independent and transparent investigation of deprivation of their basic human rights. That is why NGO “Kreni-Promeni” started the petition “Stop police brutality” in order to ensure that police violence will never happen again. . On the same day petition will be also handed over to EU, Council of Europe and Belgrade institutions.
